James Thomas "Jim" Spillman

80 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on February 8, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at his residence in Greensburg. He was born on June 17, 1926 in Sandusky, Indiana and was the son of Lon and Helen (Ruddell) Spillman. He was raised 1 1/2 miles west of Sandusky on CR 500 N. He spent 12 years in the Sandusky School and graduated in 1944. He worked in the building trade with his father and followed that throughout his life. He was married to Lorraine Hood on November 26, 1949 and she survives. For several years they lived on the Spillman farm and enjoyed the pleasure of having two daughters born during that time. In 1956 Jim and Lorraine built their house on N. East St. in Greensburg where they have lived since. Jim and his brother, Paul started a construction company in 1962 (Spillman Brothers, Inc.) Jim retired in 1990. Jim was also an artist. His paintings can be seen at various businesses and homes around the area. He also worked with First Federal Savings and Loan for 26 years, where he served as Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Eagles and the Decatur County Artist Association.

Ray Evans

77, Greensburg, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg. Born, June 27, 1928 in Decatur Co., Indiana, he was the son of Raymond and Cora (Ray) Evans. He was the former owner of Evans Dairy Store in Greensburg. He also owned, operated and was a broker at his real estate agency for 35 years before retiring in 2002. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1946. He was a Veteran of the Army where he served in the Korean War. He was a former officer of the First Baptist Church, a former member of the Greensburg Lions Club, and a member of the Greensburg Chamber of Commerce. He was married to Bonnie L. Tichenor on August 19, 1950 and she survives.   He is survived his wife, 1 son, James R. (Anna) Evans, Edinburgh IN, 3 Daughters, Patricia (Earl) Patterson, Seierville Tenn., Linda (Dennis) Scott, Bloomington Ind., and Janet Miller, Elkhart, Ind., 11 Grandchildren, and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Raye D. Woodhull 

65, of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on July 19, 1940 in Flatrock, Ind., to Mary O. Beatty Woodhull and Ralph H. Woodhull. He was a 1958 graduate of the former Sandusky High School.        He was married on May 31, 1964, to Sharlee Gallimore Woodhull, in the Sandusky United Methodist Church. Raye worked at the former NTN-BCA factory in Greensburg for 28 years and also was a route driver for the Greensburg Daily News and the Indianapolis Star. He was currently the building supervisor for the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department. He was a member of the Community Church of Greensburg, United Steel Workers Union and Decatur County Lifeline.   Raye is survived by his wife Sharlee; two sons, Kevin (Darla) and Kenneth J. (Lee Ann) Woodhull, both of Greensburg; one daughter, Lori Lynn (John) Riley, Greensburg; three brothers, Charles R. Woodhull, New Whiteland, Ind., Wayne and Lawrence Woodhull, both of Greensburg; two sisters, Wanda (Clarence) Heaton and his twin sister, Faye Zeigler, both of Greensburg; twelve grandchildren also survive.

Clara M. Parker 

103, Greensburg, Indiana passed away on November 21, 2006 at the Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg, Indiana.   She was born on May 23, 1903 in Covington, Kentucky and was the daughter of Eli and Gertrude (Childress) Menefee. She attended Sandusky and Adams Schools. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church for 82 years. She married William W. Parker on September 17, 1929 in Greensburg, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on February 18 1992. She lived on the same farm in Clay Township for 73 years and her last seven years at Morning Breeze Nursing Home.

She is survived by three sons, Charles R. Parker of Eutawville, South Carolina, John E. and Thomas E. Parker both of Greensburg, Indiana; two daughters, Ruth Parker Levell of Chesterfield, Indiana and Betty Parker of Greensburg, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Claude R. "Bud" Weber, Sr.

84, 216 W. Second St. Greensburg, died at 4:35 a.m. on June 5, 2006 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. He was a life long resident of Decatur County, born May 19, 1922 to his parents Chris W. and Caroline Bussberg Weber. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1941 and served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also enjoyed activities with the Decatur County Historical Society, the Greensburg Senior Center, and the Tri-County Historical Society.

He married Freida Mae Schaffer on January 3, 1946 whom he is survived by, as well as three Sons, Claude R. (Sandy) Weber, Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Raymond W. (Cecil) Weber of Independence, MO, James R. Weber of Olympia, WA; two Grandchildren, Christopher Weber of Kansas City, MO and Courtney Weber of Jacksonville, Fla.; one Sister, Mrs. Ronald J. (Gladys) Armstrong of Indianapolis, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris W. and Caroline Bussberg Weber; three Brothers, Carl, Lester, and Clarence Weber, and a Granddaughter, Tracy Weber.

Lucille Brewsaugh

92 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on December 14, 2006 at the Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg.

She was born on October 12, 1914 in Greensburg, Indiana and was the daughter of Charles E. and Maudie (Hampton) Moulton.  She was a homemaker and had been the manager of the Sandusky School Cafeteria and then the manager at the North Decatur School Cafeteria for 20 years until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sandusky, the BPW, the Methodist Women and the Clinton Township Extension Club.  She was married to Orville C. Brewsaugh on July 21, 1931 and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1997.   She is survived by five sons, Jack (Maureen) Brewsaugh of Greensburg, Robert (Carolyn) Brewsaugh of Greensburg, Don (Darlene) Brewsaugh of Greensburg, Jerry Brewsaugh of Greensburg, Roger Brewsaugh of Columbus; four daughters, Shirley (Dale) Schwering of Rushville, Janice (David) Johnston of Westport, Ruth (Bill) Flack of Greensburg, Sara (Greg Piddler) Myers of Greensburg; two brothers, Dale Moulton of Greensburg, Thomas Moulton, Sr. of Greensburg; one sister, Edna Howe of Columbus; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and three-great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Richard Brewsaugh; two brothers, Robert Gale Moulton, John Moulton; three sisters, Louise Cornn, Edith Buchert, Elizabeth Bevins; three grandchildren, Mike Brewsaugh, Darrin Francis, Eric Brewsaugh; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Brewsaugh; one brother-in-law, Robert Buchert and one half-sister, Mary A. Martin

Robert H. Cochran

Robert H. Cochran, 78 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on January 3, 2008 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

He was born on August 6, 1929 to Edith (Herman) and Virgil R. Cochran in Greensburg. He was a 1947 graduate of Sandusky High School and was married to Marlene Montgomery on July 5, 1959. He was employed at Delta Faucet in Greensburg for 28 years as a Shipping Supervisor, before retiring in 1986. He was an active member at the First Christian Church, American Legion Post #129, the Greensburg Senior Citizens, and the Democratic Party. He sat on the boards for the Decatur County Zoning Board, Water Board, and the September Place. He served three terms on the Greensburg City Council and two terms on the Decatur County Council. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1951-1953.

William H. "Bill" Gordon

William H. "Bill" Gordon, 80, of Greenfield passed away Wednesday February 20, 2008 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, In. He was born December. 5, 1927 to Allison and Alice Gordon who resided near Kingston in Decatur County. He was a 1946 graduate of Sandusky High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force having received an honorable discharge in 1949. Later in 1949 he was married to Gertrude (Trudy) Ann Moore and they settled in Fugit Township where he and his family farmed for more than 40 years before retiring and moving to Greenfield. While residing in Decatur County he was an elder and member of the Springhill Presbyterian Church, received the degree of Past Master from Masonic Lodge 124 of Clarksburg and was an active member of the Decatur County Community Artists. He was an avid pilot and enjoyed family outings and travel.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy (Moore) Gordon, a daughter; Ruthanne, (husband Jeffrey) Sullivan with grandchildren Justin, Ryan and Caitlin; son Paul William Gordon, (wife Ginny) with grandchildren Alex, Brian, and Suzanne; and son Kenneth Dale Gordon (wife Cheryl) with grandchildren Kelsey and Abigail.

Mary Lou Platt

Mary Lou Platt, 84, Greensburg, Indiana passed away Saturday March 29, 2008 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home. She was born in Decatur County, IN. on June 20, 1923 the daughter of Emmert Edward and Glenn Dora (Doggett) Maple. She was a 1941 graduate of Sandusky High School. She was a lifetime member of the of the Star Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Ladies Missionary Aid, and played the piano for many years. She married Wilmer E. Platt on June 9, 1946 at the Star Baptist Church in Decatur County, Indiana and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2008.

She is survived by One Daughter: Sandra Kay (Jeff) Crackel of Greensburg, IN. Two Sons: John E. (Brenda) Platt of Hope, IN., & Larry O. (Karen) Platt of Greensburg, IN. One Sister: Lucille (Wilbur) Holzback of Rushville and Sister-In-Law: Betha Wimmer of Shelbyville, IN. She is also survived by Grandchildren: Shawn Platt of Greensburg, Greg Platt of Bloomington, Michelle (Chris) Christianson of Greensburg, and Brad Platt of Deer Park, NY and Three Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, and Two Half Brothers: Forrest and Eugene Garrett.

Norman E. Fromer

Norman E. Fromer, 74 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on June 26, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Care He was born on December 10, 1933 in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Russell E. and Irene (Woolf) Fromer.

He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1951 and attended IUPUI. He was a Mechanical Engineer for Federal Mogul (BCA). He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 until 1958. He married Roberta (Richardson) in May 1955 in Westport, Indiana and she preceded him in death in August 1977. He married Marilyn (Smith) Fromer on January 10, 1979 at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg, Indiana and she survives.

Richard M. Barber

Richard M. Barber, 72, Greensburg, passed away on Friday, Oct. 3 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital.Born April 19, 1936 in Rush County, he was the son of Irvin W. and Gladys P. (Lee) Barber.

He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1955. He was a veteran of the Army. He was a factory worker at Chrysler Corp. in New Castle for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the U.A.W. #371.

Paul N. Spillman

Paul N. Spillman, 79, Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Morning Breeze in Greensburg. Born, July 22, 1929 in Decatur Co., Indiana, he was the son of Lon and Helen (Ruddell) Spillman. He was a self employed carpenter, working with his brother James for over 30 years. He loved bird watching, reading and wood working. He was a member of the First Church of God in Greensburg and the Sandusky Methodist Church. He was married to Mary Etta Moore on April 2, 1959 and she preceded him in death on June 15, 1990.

Elizabeth Ann Smith

Elizabeth Ann Smith 94 Greensburg, Indiana died on Sunday May 17, 2009 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg. Mrs. Smith was born January 24, 1915, in Washington Township, Decatur County, Indiana, the daughter of Arthur Carter and Mary (Robbins) Stewart. She attended Kingston grade school and graduated from Greensburg High School in 1933. She attended Purdue University where she was a member of Pi Beta sorority and Mortar Board. She also served as president of the Women’s Student Government Association her senior year. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics/English/Science in 1938 and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1965.

Mrs. Smith taught at Thorntown High School and Sandusky High School. She retired from teaching in 1977 after 20 years as a kindergarten teacher a Rosemund Elementary School in Greensburg.

She was an active member of the first Presbyterian Church, Pi Beta Phi sorority, the associate Chapter of Tri Kappa, PEO sisterhood, Delta Kappa Gamma, Lois Chapter Eastern Star and the Decatur County Retired Teachers Association. She was also a charter member of the Decatur County Day Care Board where she served with great dedication until 2000.

Among the honors she received during her lifetime were the Greensburg Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award, the Carousel Daycare Kids Count Award, the Purdue University Hidden Diamond Award and an honorary life membership in the Women’s Association of the Presbyterian Church.

Don R. Brewsaugh

Don R. Brewsaugh, 68, Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born, June 16, 1941 in Decatur Co., Indiana, he was the son of Orville C. and Lucille (Moulton) Brewsaugh.
Don graduated from Sandusky High School in 1959.
Don was a wood pattern maker for the Pattern Makers Association for 45 years, he worked for Valeo for 4 years, and he was a talented wood furniture craftsman. He was a member of the Sandusky Methodist Church, the Eagles, and a former member of the Greensburg Jaycees.
He was married to Darlene Poling on February 10, 1963, and she survives.

Calvin R. Bowling

Calvin R. Bowling, 85, passed away on Monday, May 31 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born, Oct. 26, 1924 in Sandusky, he was the son of Nathan and Mary C. (Osborn) Bowling.
He had worked at the Eckrich Co. for 18 years, the Indiana Gas and Water Co., for 6 years and he had worked for the Clark Swanson family in Naples, Fla., for several years.
He graduated from Sandusky High School. He was a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge, the Greensburg American Legion and the Naples VFW. He was a veteran of the Navy serving in the WW II.
